At the heart of all sporting activity at Outgang Road is Deeping Sports and Social Club. Our modern, purpose-built clubhouse boasts marvellous facilities including a spacious lounge bar with dance floor and pool table, and a smaller meeting or seminar room with bar facility. Ample parking is available.
Our full time steward Steve Thurston, provides excellent bar facilities with a full range of beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks including top quality cask conditioned real ales. And from the kitchen, he can offer you hot drinks as well as cold and hot snacks. Steve has recently extended the opening hours of the clubhouse to include weekend mornings and Sunday afternoons and loads of social events are planned for the coming season.
It is with great sadness that the Club announces the sudden death of our much loved and respected Secretary Haydon Whitham.
Haydon died of a heart attack, while walking with his close friends in Derbyshire, on Friday afternoon (June 6th).
Haydon moved to the Peterborough area, from his native Sheffield in 1988, to be Accountant at Peterborough Reinforcements (later to become Roe Group), Fengate.
He started to watch Deeping Rangers’ teams in the early nineties and from this he was persuaded to join in the Club Activities where he became Fixture Secretary for two seasons in 1994.
Haydon had been Club secretary since AGM of 1996 and had worked with several Chairman and many fellow Committee members. He was a key driver in the Club’s progression from the Peterborough League into United Counties where they became Premier Division Champions in 2006/2007.
Deeping Rangers Chairman Kevin Davenport said "We are totally, totally devastated at this loss. Not only have we lost a very good friend we have also lost a rock of our Club – Haydon was so influential in the running of Deeping Rangers that it will be big task to find a person or people to take on the work he did. We were still getting over the loss of Club President Norman Fowler so to have this loss has really created a huge void in the Club."
Deeping Rangers Vice Chairman Paul Smith commented, "I can only reiterate the words from Kevin, we have lost an immense person who was a good friend to all within the Club, he was also the centre hub of DRFC, who handled everything with his professional style and kept the Club on an even, progressing keel - both elements will be missed tremendously. It is very difficult to comprehend so close to losing Norman."
Deeping Rangers First Team Manager Tuncay Korkmaz paid his own tribute in this text message to his squad.
"Hi guys, I have been in football for a long time and met some nice people on the way but not many, if any, better than our Club Secretary, and a good friend of mine, Haydon! I am saddened by news just received – unfortunately Haydon had a heart attack earlier this afternoon and passed away. For those who knew Haydon, you will know that he will be sorely missed – for those who did not know Haydon well, you missed a great opportunity. I will certainly remember Haydon with some great memories, rest in peace Haydon!"
Haydon was also Secretary and Director of Deeping Sports and Social Club where Chairman and fellow director Andy Moore made the following statement:
"We are deeply saddened to have lost our dedicated Secretary and long term friend in such tragic circumstances. Haydon was much more than a colleague at the Club, he was always there to bring reason and Yorkshire common sense to every issue whether it be Club matters, general debate or our favourite United-Wednesday banter from our beloved Sheffield roots. I am immensely proud to have known Haydon as a close friend and colleague and it is very difficult to contemplate the Club without him around."
